Walnuts thrive in regions with moderate temperatures and prefer areas with a cool to mild climate. They typically grow in locations with altitudes ranging from low to moderate elevations.
Walnuts
Walnuts are a group of nuts belonging to the genus Juglans. They have a wide natural distribution and come in about 15 different species. These trees require a deep, well-drained soil with ample rainfall and are sensitive to extreme heat and late spring frosts. Walnuts are known for their ability to increase the butter-fat content of milk when fed to dairy cows.

- Walnuts are known for their high nutritional value and are a good source of omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, and vitamins. - They are commonly used in baking, cooking, and as a topping for salads and desserts. - Walnut trees are deciduous and can reach heights of up to 30 meters. - The wood of walnut trees is highly valued for its attractive grain and is used in furniture making. - Walnuts have been associated with various health benefits, including improved brain function and heart health. - Walnut shells are often used in abrasive cleaning products and as a natural dye.
Walnuts prefer a deep, rich soil that is well-drained to a depth of at least three meters and contains large amounts of humus. The soil should be free from extreme heat and late spring frosts.
Family: JUGLANDACEAE
There are about 15 species of walnut, having a wide natural distribution from Europe to China, Japan and the Americas. Walnuts require a minimum rainfall of 760 mm (less with irrigation), a deep, rich soil which is well drained to a depth of at least three metres and containing large amounts of humus. The site must be free from extreme heat and late spring frosts. They are traditionally spaced 15 m x 15 m, although closer spacings of l 2 m x 15m and 9 m x 15 m have produced greater yields per hectare. The closer spacings would be preferable for long term timber production, as they would result in longer trunks.
The leaves of walnuts, when fed to dairy cows are said to increase the butter - fat content of milk.
